Healing With Laughter
A Stand Up Comedy Workshop for Yogis
Ryan’s “Healing With Laughter” show was hilarious and was loved by the entire crowd of yogis. His yoga specific comedy had us all laughing at ourselves and the show was a great community event for people to connect with one another.
-Richard Lanza, Owner of Open Doors Power Yoga
In a community where practices of yoga and meditation are prominent, comedy is a brilliant compliment! This show allowed me to “let go” just as much as any yoga class I’ve ever been to.
-Colleen Mullen, Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner
Can Yogis laugh at themselves? Turns out they can as Ryan has performed his workshop, “Healing with Laughter,” at yoga studios around New England and Costa Rica to rave reviews. Ryan’s stand up, sketch, and improv comedy is centered around yoga, meditation, superfoods, veganism, and stories about why his ex-girlfriend, a yoga instructor, refused to pick him up from the airport.
Ryan combines his two passions, yoga and comedy, for the purpose of healing the soul and enlivening the spirit. On top of touring the country as a comedian, Ryan was voted the Top Young Comedian in Boston in 2007 and was one of 8 finalists out of 3,000 entrants in the Magner’s Comedy Festival in 2011.
WARNING YOGIS: You will be made fun of. If you are sensitive about your $99 dollar Jade Elite Yoga Mat or your white Racerback with extra support Lululemon top, bring healing crystals to help you cope. If the show becomes too funny, go into child’s pose and focus on ujjayi breathing. Laughing burns calories so bring coconut water to hydrate after the show.
“Healing with Laughter” combines stand up, sketch, and improv comedy to create a space where we can all openly laugh and let go. Laughing fills your body with endorphins that actually make you happier and healthier at the same time. Unlike a comedy club which prepares people to laugh by serving alcohol, Ryan creates a super relaxed and intimate setting of excess cushions, yoga mats and blankets that allows the audience to sit or lay in any position they wish and laugh to their heart’s content.
It turns out that when we laugh together we form a strong bond with one another. Ryan’s workshop aims to bring people closer together and allow them to connect. In a time where we are glued to our phones and the internet, Ryan seeks to build community by creating a wildly fun workshop that causes a group of people to laugh together and share in each other’s delight.
Time is given after the performance for social interaction; you won’t leave this workshop without making a new friend or having a fun conversation. It’s amazing how open people become to meeting someone new after an hour of side-splitting yoga comedy.
